Speaking in Beads is an epic collection of photographs sensationalizing my work being worn by musicians ranging from the likes of Bob Weir, Oteil Burbridge, Chandler Kinchla, Anders Osborne, Duane Betts, Charlie Starr, Eirck Coomes, aka Jesus, of the funk band Lettuce, Steve Earle, Barry Sless, Zach Nugent, Grahame Lesh, Elliott Peck, Jake Brownstein of Eggy, Greg Ormont of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and so many more! Several of the musicians have shared statements describing their relationship with the beadwork, and in some cases about the process we experienced in the development of their pieces.

In addition to the phenomenal musicians I have strapped, I have had the honor of working with curators of historic instruments. These include guitars previously owned or played by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh. Prominent luthiers such as Rick Turner, Doug Irwin and Leo Elliott have created some of the most beautiful examples of what fine craftsmanship in the industry can accomplish, and you’ll see several pieces I have created that accompany their work. Beyond straps in the limelight, the book is a collection of many of the guitar straps, hatbands, tapestries and cuffs I have made for individuals. There is a story to be beaded for everyone. Whether the piece is being narrated to me by a loved one, or in first person, the attachments to symbols, landscapes, elements, iconic images, or genres of art that get translated in my language of beads is honored and treasured by me. Each story is unique, and each tale is precious.

The dimensions of the book are in a 9 X 12 layout, which allows for an intimate view of the detailed work. The artwork on the cover of the book was beaded by me for the sole purpose of this project. The colors, curvature and Art Nouveau inspired design all speak of my inner visual voice. Writing is a passion of mine I hold as dear to my heart as beading. Sharing my story, how my road to beaded dreams began, and the amazing connections I have built along the way has been cathartic and truly nourishing to my soul. As you read along, you'll laugh and cry as each memorable anecdote is told.
